Cricut Design Space for Beginners Transcript
The latest version Cricut Design Space software is v.6.11.
The video will show you some of the new features of the Cricut Design Space version 3.0.
For those of you who are new to Cricut, I’m going to walk you through how to use design space and navigate through the workspace.
So let’s get started here we are at the home screen and right away we see new features first of all we have all kinds of great deals and offers across the top and you can navigate through these by using the arrows left and right next we have my projects this is new this is an easy way to get to your saved Cricut projects these are projects that you have created and saved into design space and also new is we now get a preview of our projects before we just had the name but now you can go through and see your projects you can click on them and get a bigger preview
01:20
these are some coin envelopes that I uploaded into design space we can rename our projects which I love and you can delete them from here and also you can scroll left or right to see all of your projects in design space that you have saved we can also create a new project from right here and we can create a new project from right here in the upper right next we have what’s new this is what’s new for Disney and you can click a gun the arrows left and right or you can click see more and be taken to a and I was playing in design space I’m just going to hit replace so if you click see more you can see a bigger preview of each image and then as you pick the image that you want you can click on it and these are make it now projects and I’ll go into that in just a moment let’s go back to the home screen next we have kind of a trending category here and this shows you know Mother’s Day is right around the corner so they’ve got Mother’s here this is definitely a trending topic right now so these are all kinds of Mother’s Day projects and again you can scroll through these by going left or right click see more to see them all in one screen these are vinyl projects so all of you vinyl lovers or those looking to get into vinyl can find some easy make it now projects right here that include vinyl we have an iron-on category same thing we have cards category and a home decor now what these projects are called make it now projects and if you click on a make it now project.
03:16
I’m just going to click on this first one right here. It’s going to bring up a nice new big preview window of your project.
It’s going to give it a name. It’s going to give you a skill level which this one’s considered easy and a proximate time frame it says about 30 minutes less
03:35
than 30 minutes it’s going to give you
03:36
the finished size of the project the
03:38
materials you need to cut it anything
03:41
else you need to assemble it as such as
03:44
transfer tape or adhesive it’s going to
03:47
give you a description of the project
03:49
it’s going to tell you what you need to
03:52
do to prepare to make the project it’s
03:56
going to tell you what you need to cut
03:57
it and then it’s going to tell you how
04:00
to assemble here are some tips and trick
04:04
videos that Cricut has put together to
04:07
help you assemble this if you need to
04:09
and then it’s going to tell you the
04:11
images and fonts that are used in this
04:13
project and you can see like this one
04:15
all are part of access images or free
04:18
images so it wouldn’t cost you anything
04:20
to make this if you are an access member
04:23
you also have two other options down
04:25
here at the bottom of each of these
04:27
project
04:27
to have customized and you have make it
04:30
if you click make it and again I have to
04:34
replace because I was playing in here so
04:36
you click make it and this is going to
04:39
take you right to your cutting mat you
04:43
don’t have to do anything
04:44
crickets got it all set up for you those
04:46
of you who have had design space in the
04:49
past are going to notice the screen
04:50
looks very different and it is amazing I
04:53
love it
04:54
everything looks so clean it’s so
04:55
streamlined and will get into the screen
04:58
a little bit more but I want to go back
05:00
to the make it project so that is if you
05:07
just want to make it exactly like it’s
05:09
shown then you just click make it
05:12
however say I wanted to make this but I
05:14
wanted to change something so we could
05:16
go into customize now if you go into
05:18
customize Cricut is going to put this on
05:23
your canvas so that you can do whatever
05:25
you want so maybe I wanted to make this
05:28
envelope a different color I could do
05:30
that so that’s the difference between
05:34
customize and make it let’s go back to
05:39
our home screen so again all of these
05:42
projects you have those two options you
05:44
can say I want to make this just like it
05:47
is click it click make it or you can
05:51
click it click customize and customize
05:54
anything to your liking the other thing
05:59
I want to explore right here is this
06:01
little menu bar you can click this and
06:04
you have access to the home page canvas
06:07
printing cut calibration we’ll get into
06:10
that in another video
06:11
manage custom materials we’ll also get
06:13
into that in another video new machine
06:16
setup if you’re new to design space you
06:18
can click right here and it’s going to
06:20
walk you through setting up your machine
06:22
update firmware account details link
06:25
cartridges if you were just setting up
06:29
your Cricut and you have cartridges from
06:33
a previous machine this is where you’re
06:35
going to link those cartridges Cricut
06:37
access settings some legal information
06:40
if you just want to brief
06:41
summary of all the new things in design
06:43
space you can click right here and
06:44
they’ve got a nice little kind of
06:47
slideshow for you choose your state or
06:51
your country help menu and if you want
06:55
to sign out so let’s go back to home so
06:58
we’re going to create a new project so
07:01
you can click create new project right
07:02
here or you can click right here either
07:05
one what’s going to take you to the home
07:09
screen and here we are this is the
07:12
canvas this is where you create and put
07:16
all of your images together the first
07:18
thing we have up here in the left is a
07:21
new button so if I was working on a
07:23
project and then I wanted to start
07:25
another project I would click new we’re
07:27
already in a new project so I’m not
07:30
going to click that the next button we
07:32
see is projects this is going to take
07:35
you back to make it now projects so
07:40
again here are all the make it now
07:42
projects so why we’re right here I want
07:45
to take you up to this button right here
07:47
if you click this you can sort the make
07:50
it now projects or your projects by
07:54
different categories so say I just want
07:56
to see let’s say I just want to see baby
08:00
projects so that’s just going to bring
08:04
up the baby projects so maybe when I’m
08:07
in baby I want to see a baby growth
08:11
chart so I could just put in growth
08:13
chart and that’s going to bring up a
08:16
couple of projects that are ready to go
08:18
that are baby
08:19
growth charts so that’s how projects
08:23
work so don’t forget to use your filters
08:25
it really saves you a lot of time
08:27
scrolling through a lot of projects when
08:29
you can kind of zero in by following one
08:32
of these categories to what you’re
08:33
looking for so let’s go back to the
08:36
canvas by clicking on canvas the next
08:39
button we’re going to click on is images
08:41
and this is going to bring you to the
08:44
Cricut library one thing you’re going to
08:48
notice is we have a much cleaner library
08:51
everything is streamlined and
08:54
it’s fast everything loads really fast
08:56
we also have bigger previews of our
08:59
images but watch this if we click this
09:01
button here they’re even bigger so this
09:05
is a really nice feature you’re going to
09:08
notice that these little a’s right here
09:11
on many of the images that is for cricut
09:14
access if you have a access subscriber
09:17
and for those of you who are new to
09:19
access Cricut has a couple different
09:23
subscriptions that you can subscribe to
09:25
and they’re called access if you
09:27
subscribe to access you can use any of
09:29
these images with the green flag on them
09:31
as many times as you want as often as
09:35
you want it doesn’t cost you anything
09:37
other than your subscription you can use
09:39
them all the time while you are
09:42
subscribed now if you stop your
09:45
subscription you will no longer be able
09:47
to use those images unless you purchase
09:49
it if you’re not an access member and
09:52
you want to use any of the images
09:54
whether it has the green flag or not
09:56
there is a purchase price right here in
09:59
the lower left so this one I can
10:01
purchase for $0.99 if I were to purchase
10:03
this image for $0.99 I can use it as
10:07
many times as I want for as long as I
10:09
want
10:09
whether I’m subscribed to anything or
10:11
not it’s my image and I only have to pay
10:14
for it one time so I get a lot of
10:17
questions of the people wanting to
10:19
understand the difference between buying
10:21
an image and being an access member so
10:24
for instance even though I’m an access
10:25
member this image is not part of access
10:28
so if I want to use this image I need to
10:31
purchase it and it’s going to cost me
10:33
the IE nine cents but after I pay that
10:34
ninety nine cents I can do whatever I
10:37
want with the school bus as many times
10:39
as I want and I’ll never have to pay for
10:41
it again so I hope that clears up that
10:44
for you now there are thousands and
10:47
thousands and thousands of images here
10:49
in your library and if you’re looking
10:52
for something specific you’re not going
10:54
to want to have to scroll through
10:55
everything so they have some ways to
10:58
sort that out for you here we have
11:00
categories if we click on categories we
11:05
can look at what’s free the
11:08
week and they’re these always change so
11:11
all of these images are free in access
11:14
or free in design space in this week
11:18
let’s go back to categories we can
11:23
search by most popular or recently added
11:27
and this is fun just to go in and check
11:29
every once in a while just to see if
11:31
there’s some new things that have added
11:33
that catch your eye it’s a fun way to
11:35
just see what’s been going on when you
11:39
weren’t looking
11:40
let’s go back to categories they also
11:45
have categories by topics so baby
11:49
anniversary Cinco de Mayo Easter all
11:53
kinds of topics there for you and those
11:56
are ways to you know maybe Valentine’s
11:59
is around the corner and you want to see
12:01
there’s a project you want to make and
12:02
you also have a filter by brand so you
12:07
can say you know I want an Anna Griffin
12:09
image or I want to Lori Whitlock image
12:11
and all you do is click on that and this
12:14
will bring up all of the projects by
12:16
Lori Whitlock so once I have the Lori
12:20
Whitlock projects up perhaps I just want
12:22
to see a box by Lori Whitlock so it’s
12:27
going to bring up boxes that Lori
12:29
Whitlock has or their the name boxes in
12:32
the name like these are box cards so
12:36
that’s another way to filter so let’s
12:39
delete that let’s go check out
12:42
cartridges okay this is going to bring
12:46
up different Cricut cartridges and you
12:49
can search cartridges by name so say I
12:54
want cartridges by cartridges related to
12:58
Christmas so I’m going to type in
13:00
Christmas and hit enter now what this is
13:04
going to do is bring up any cartridge
13:06
that has the word Christmas in the title
13:10
so that’s a easy way to search out a
13:14
cartridge this one I haven’t purchased
13:17
so I want to show you this if you want
13:20
to buy all the images on the car
13:22
you could buy them all for $29.99 which
13:24
is a pretty good deal there’s a hundred
13:26
and twenty four images on here they’re
13:28
each $0.99 so you save a lot of money
13:31
that way if you want to do that or you
13:34
could just buy this one bird for $0.99
13:38
okay so let’s go back to images and I’m
13:43
going to put flower and we have one
13:49
other way to filter our images and that
13:52
is by clicking on filter right here and
13:54
here I can say I want to see flowers
13:58
that are part of access so I’m going to
14:00
click on that and this is just going to
14:02
bring up all the flowers that are in
14:04
access so it just removed all the stuff
14:06
that I don’t have access to and it saves
14:09
me the time of trying to sort and find
14:11
what I’m looking for so here we can also
14:17
filter it out by cards that have flowers
14:23
or frames that have flowers or
14:26
multi-layer projects that have flowers
14:30
so you can use these filters to save you
14:33
some time from scrolling through all the
14:36
different objects and while we’re here
14:39
I’m just going to grab this flower by
14:41
clicking on it and click insert image
14:44
and we’re going to go back to the canvas
14:45
and I’m just going to use this to
14:47
demonstrate some other items but we’ll
14:51
put this off to the side the next button
14:53
here we have is text and this is where
14:56
the fun of design space 3 really shines
14:59
I’m going to type I love my Cricut I’m
15:07
going to move this up here so here I
15:09
have some text that I have put on the
15:12
canvas Cricut has moved the edit menu up
15:15
here so there are some fun things we can
15:17
do here with our text
15:19
let’s move this actually I’m gonna move
15:22
it down about right there
15:23
okay so while the texts selected we now
15:26
can change the font up here it used to
15:29
be over to the side and you had this
15:31
little tiny preview but look at this
15:32
this is beautiful too
15:35
see a better preview of the text that
15:38
you might want to change your font – and
15:44
this is has your system fonts as well as
15:47
your Cricut fonts everything moves
15:54
really quickly it loads your font much
15:56
quicker
15:57
we have style right here we can change
15:59
it to regular bold italic bold italic we
16:03
can change the font size you can use the
16:07
up and down arrows to change it or you
16:09
could change it this way we also have
16:12
letter space which makes more or less
16:15
space in between each letter this comes
16:19
in handy when you’re using script we
16:21
have a line space which puts more or
16:24
less space in between lines of text you
16:27
can see those are getting further apart
16:29
we have alignment which we can justify
16:31
left we could center or right justify if
16:36
you have multiple lines of text if you
16:39
look over in the layers panel you’ll see
16:40
this text is let’s get this flower out
16:43
of our way you’ll see this text is on
16:45
one layer right here if I turn it off
16:48
everything turns off so if we click on
16:53
the text and we click ungroup two
16:57
letters watch the layers panel now you
17:00
see every single letter has its own
17:04
layer and the beauty of that is if I
17:08
just want to move this letter C over a
17:12
little bit I can do that if I just want
17:15
to make this letter C big I can do that
17:23
the other thing that is new is that now
17:26
even though I have ungrouped all these
17:28
letters to their own layer I can just
17:31
change the font of that letter if I want
17:36
you couldn’t do that before so that’s
17:39
really a fun feature now let’s click
17:43
undo get this back to where it was
17:47
and we’re going to I’m going to undo one
17:52
oops
17:53
redo okay now we’re back to where we
17:55
were all the text is on one layer okay
17:58
now watch if we click ungroup two lines
18:01
what that did is make this one layer and
18:04
this line one layer and again we can
18:08
still edit this text we can still change
18:10
the font we can still change the size we
18:13
could ungroup just the letters on this
18:16
so those are some fun new font features
18:20
one other thing I just want to mention
18:22
quickly when you’re working with fonts a
18:24
lot of times people will message me and
18:27
ask they want to cut words out for maybe
18:32
a bulletin board and they want each
18:33
letter to be 2 inches and so they will
18:37
select or type their word and they’ll
18:39
type 2 inches in the size what happens
18:46
when you do that is it makes the word or
18:48
whatever you have selected two inches
18:51
from left to right you see that’s two
18:55
inches if you want each letter to be 2
18:58
inches you need to do ungroup two
19:01
letters select each letter and change
19:03
that to two inches that’s just a common
19:06
question that I get a lot people want
19:08
their letters to be a certain width but
19:11
you have to undelete ange each letter
19:15
okay let’s get rid of the text and let’s
19:20
explore the next button
19:23
this is shapes these are shapes in
19:27
design space these are free you can use
19:30
them as much as you want their basic
19:31
shape square circle triangle diamond
19:33
hexagon Pentagon star octagon heart and
19:36
your score line so you can use these as
19:40
many times as you want as often as you
19:43
want and they’re always free next is
19:47
upload images this is where you’re going
19:51
to go if you want to upload your own
19:54
images you can use JPEGs gifts PNG
19:59
bitmaps SPG’s or
20:01
DX X DX F Files
20:04
I’m going to have a separate video just
20:07
on uploading images but I’ll just do one
20:10
really quickly just to show you how
20:12
simple this is you click on upload image
20:14
and you can drag or click a browse and
20:19
I’m just going to find an image from my
20:23
desktop I’ll just do this PNG file and
20:26
we’ll click open there it is we have a
20:32
transparent background the simple image
20:35
and I’m just going to click continue
20:38
here I have some options and again I’m
20:42
going to go into all of this in the next
20:44
video so we’re going to click continue
20:47
you have a choice to save it as a
20:50
printing cut or a cut image and I hope
20:52
you’re noticing how quickly in response
20:54
of this design spaces here we could tag
20:57
it and I could tag this as journey and
21:01
click Save and here it is I can click on
21:10
it and that easily I have brought in an
21:13
image that was not a Cricut image into
21:18
design space and this is ready to cut so
21:21
now we’re going to grab our flower that
21:23
we grabbed earlier and we’re going to
21:26
explore this edit menu up on top we have
21:29
undo and redo
21:32
when you click undo it takes away the
21:35
last thing that you did so I just move
21:37
that flower from here to up here if I
21:39
click undo it’s going to put it back
21:40
where it was
21:41
if I click redo it’s going to redo it so
21:44
that’s pretty simple we have a select
21:48
all select all is going to select
21:50
everything that’s on the canvas we have
21:55
edit once you have something selected
21:58
you can click Edit and it’s going to
22:00
give you the option to cut which is the
22:03
same as delete also this red button is
22:07
delete and copy
22:10
so if I click copy
22:13
and then I click Edit I now have the
22:15
option to paste and that’s going to
22:18
paste whatever you copied it keeps it in
22:21
the memory so if I were to do some other
22:24
copy that and do some other things and
22:26
then come back later and click paste it
22:28
will remember that I have that copied
22:32
the next thing we can do is click align
22:35
so if you have more than one object on
22:39
your mat we do we can select them both
22:41
by drawing a box around them and I just
22:43
click and drag to do the box click and
22:46
drag and now I want to align these two
22:49
flowers and say I want to align them to
22:52
the left now those are two flowers are
22:54
perfectly aligned on the left the next
22:59
option we have is a range and this
23:03
flower you see if I move this flower it
23:05
goes behind that flower okay what a
23:10
range does is it changes the order of
23:13
the layers so if I hit a range move to
23:17
front
23:18
now this flower is on top of that flower
23:22
that makes sense
23:24
the next item we have is flip I can flip
23:28
this image horizontally or I could flip
23:32
it vertically the next option is the
23:37
sizing now there are a couple different
23:40
ways to resize an image you can always
23:42
resize an image by clicking on this
23:45
arrow and pushing or pulling to size it
23:49
but say I had this flower and I need it
23:52
to be exactly 3 inches wide I would type
23:55
three point and now it is exactly three
24:00
inches wide
24:02
you notice this lock up here what this
24:04
does is called lock proportions and when
24:06
it’s in the lock position the lock is
24:08
closed and it’s the same as this button
24:10
right here you can use either button
24:12
when it is in the lock position like
24:15
that if I resize this 3 inches wide it’s
24:20
going to keep the height in perfect
24:22
proportion it’s going to automatically
24:24
adjust the height for me however if i
24:26
unlock the
24:27
this and say I make this six inches wide
24:31
you see what happened it kept the 2.83
24:37
for the height and it only adjusted the
24:40
width so let’s click undo similarly we
24:46
can unclick the lock this way and now we
24:48
can when we move this arrow we can move
24:51
it down we can move it out so we can
24:54
manipulate this image in all directions
24:56
whereas when it’s locked
24:58
we can only proportionately resize it so
25:02
that’s how the sizing works and the lock
25:06
button next we have the rotate button
25:10
and this is convenient if you’re doing
25:12
something at angles and you want to make
25:13
sure everything is at the exact same
25:17
angle you can key it in and you can also
25:21
use the up and down arrows or highlight
25:29
it and to say we want that rotated 45
25:31
degrees the other thing you can do to
25:34
rotate is use this button right here and
25:36
this is a freestyle rotate however if
25:40
you hold your Shift key it’s going to
25:41
rotate at 45 degree increments the other
25:45
next option we have is the X and Y axis
25:48
and that just tells you where it’s at on
25:51
the canvas so it’s saying that this
25:54
flower is at five point seven nine on
25:57
the x axis which is this and it’s at one
26:02
point four three on the Y which is the
26:05
horizontal you don’t you really won’t
26:09
use those a whole lot now that we have
26:11
the align feature it used to be more
26:13
handy when we didn’t have the align
26:15
feature but now if I want you know both
26:18
of these flowers to be perfectly in
26:20
alignment
26:20
I would instead of going up and typing
26:23
in two point five six on each one I
26:25
would just hit a line left so that’s
26:29
what those buttons are for now we go
26:33
over here to the layers panel and the
26:35
color sync panel and you can see I have
26:38
flower one right here it’s highlighted
26:40
and
26:40
this is flour to the first button under
26:45
the layers panel is group it’s not
26:48
highlighted because this object is
26:50
grouped together and what that means is
26:52
we have flour and then we have all the
26:53
related layers to that flour right under
26:56
it if I move one if I click on this it
27:01
moves the entire group of layers the
27:06
next button we have is ungroup now watch
27:09
what happens in the layers panel when we
27:11
hit ungroup I just ungroup that flour
27:15
and now instead of all of those layers
27:17
being nice and grouped under the word
27:19
flour each layer is separate and if I
27:22
click to move this I’m only going to
27:24
move one piece at a time
27:28
ok let’s click undo get back where we
27:31
were
27:32
so let’s select it all and group again
27:35
and now you see this is all grouped if I
27:40
select one layer everything selected so
27:43
what do we use this for well we use this
27:45
to keep things in place like this so
27:47
that we can move it without having to
27:49
move every piece and line it all back up
27:51
again but we also use it if I want to
27:54
say I’m going to cut this flower and I
27:56
want to resize it I want to cut it this
27:59
big so that I don’t have to go and
28:02
resize each layer by hand I group it so
28:06
that I can resize it the way I want it
28:09
all at one time so it’s going to resize
28:12
all the layers at once so while it’s
28:16
still grouped I can still manipulate
28:18
these layers a little bit I could go in
28:20
and change the color of this layer for
28:23
instance but by-and-large anything I do
28:28
to the grouping is going to do it to
28:31
everything so if I just want to maybe
28:35
resize this blue layer to be bigger than
28:40
it is I would click ungroup and then I
28:44
can grab just this blue layer and make
28:48
it really big so maybe I wanted to do I
28:50
don’t know why I would but maybe I would
28:52
want to do something like that
28:54
so that’s why you group and ungroup if
28:57
you just want to manipulate one part of
28:59
something you’re going to ungroup it if
29:01
you want to just move one part of
29:04
something you’re going to ungroup it so
29:07
let’s undo get this back to the side
29:09
that’s supposed to be so this is all
29:14
ungrouped and this flower is grouped do
29:17
you see the difference in the layers
29:19
panel this is the grouped flower and
29:22
this flower in order to move it I’m
29:25
going to have to select all of it to
29:26
move it otherwise I’m just going to move
29:28
one layer at a time
29:31
so that’s group and ungroup the next
29:35
option we have is duplicate so I’m going
29:39
to select this grouped flower and click
29:40
duplicate what that does is just make
29:44
another one just like you would think it
29:46
does it’s much similar to the Edit copy
29:50
and paste however it saves the step for
29:54
one I can just hit duplicate I don’t
29:57
have to paste it’s just going to
29:58
immediately duplicate but the difference
30:01
is with the Edit menu
30:02
if I hit copy and then I do something
30:07
else say I go over here and I play with
30:10
this layer and make that big something
30:13
like that
30:14
I can come back and I can hit edit and
30:16
paste and it remembers what I did
30:20
where duplicate is only going to
30:22
duplicate whatever is selected so that’s
30:25
the difference between copy paste and
30:27
duplicate and then we have the delete
30:31
button and in design space there’s
30:33
always more than one way to do things so
30:35
I could click delete right here while I
30:38
have an object selected delete I can
30:41
select an object I can hit edit cut
30:44
that’s going to delete it I can select
30:47
an object and I can click this red X so
30:50
there are multiple ways to delete and
30:53
again the button right here okay the
30:57
next thing we’re going to look at in the
30:58
layers panel is when we have a image on
31:03
the mat we have different layers here
31:05
what a layer is think of the
31:07
as your desktop so this blue paper is on
31:10
the is touching my desk and on top of
31:13
that blue paper is this pink paper and
31:15
on top of that paper is this red paper
31:16
so it’s kind of like a paper stack and
31:20
then you know this one is on top of this
31:25
set so this is the bottom of my layers
31:28
panel this is my desk top and then this
31:30
is the order that all those papers are
31:32
so that’s how to think of the layers
31:35
panel when you’re trying to understand
31:38
why something’s not showing or you need
31:40
to get it on top okay there are a couple
31:45
things we can do in the layers panel I’m
31:47
going to select this flower and I’m
31:48
going to ungroup it so that we can work
31:50
with different layers here and you can
31:51
see what’s going on so the first thing
31:54
about the layers panel I want to show
31:55
you is when you have a layer that you
31:56
don’t want to cut but maybe you don’t
31:58
want to delete it you want to leave it
32:00
you’re not sure or maybe you just want
32:01
to get it out of your way you have these
32:04
little eyes off to the side that means
32:07
if you can see the eye it means you can
32:09
see the layer if I want to turn off say
32:13
this pink layer so that I can grab this
32:15
orange layer easy easier I can just
32:19
click on the eye and it the layer is
32:22
still there but it’s turned off so it’s
32:24
not going to cut it’s not going to do
32:25
anything if I want to bring it back I
32:27
can but I can turn a layer off
32:31
oftentimes you’ll bring up an image in
32:33
design space that will have a shadow
32:34
layer and it’s automatically turned off
32:36
so if you want to use that shadow layer
32:38
you need to turn it on so always look in
32:40
the layers panel see if you have any
32:42
eyes turned off okay the next thing
32:44
you’re going to notice in the layers
32:45
panel is the preview of the image if you
32:48
click on the preview of the image it’s
32:49
going to bring up some options
32:53
it’s going to let you change the color
32:56
so I could change the color of that
32:58
image I can choose a color that’s
33:05
pre-made for me right here or I can use
33:07
this little slider and find a color this
33:10
way can move this up change it to the
33:12
purples move this around and choose a
33:15
color that way it’s giving me the RGB
33:19
code right here
33:21
so that’s how you can change the color I
33:23
also can change this from cut to right
33:27
if I want the Cricut to write it with a
33:29
pen I can change that right here so now
33:32
it’s going to write that layer it’s
33:34
going to draw it with a pen and I can
33:35
choose what color pen color I want it to
33:37
tell me to put in I can change it to
33:40
score maybe I just want that layer to be
33:47
scored and then I can change it to print
33:50
if I just want to print that layer so
33:55
you have the option here to change it to
33:57
cut right score and print and you can
34:00
change the colors just by clicking on
34:02
the image so let’s click back on the
34:08
canvas panel okay so down here at the
34:12
bottom of the layers panel you’re going
34:13
to notice some other features the first
34:16
one is slice how to slice work well if
34:19
we had this the middle of this flower
34:22
and this piece and say we instead of
34:26
putting this piece on top of this piece
34:27
we just want those holes to be cut out
34:30
of this piece what we would do is select
34:34
both of those I’m going to hit a line
34:37
Center make sure that’s lined up and
34:41
you’re going to notice I have two layers
34:44
selected you can only slice with two
34:46
layers that’s very important so only two
34:49
layers are selected here and I’m going
34:50
to hit slice and watch what happens
34:52
I just cut those holes out of that piece
35:00
let’s try it again with these two pieces
35:03
so perhaps I want to make an outline of
35:07
a flower I’m going to select these two
35:10
layers make sure I only have two layers
35:13
selected in the layers panel I do I have
35:15
the pink layer and the blue layer right
35:17
here and I’m going to click slice and
35:20
now I have sliced that piece out of
35:25
there
35:25
think of slice like a cookie cutter
35:29
you’re going to take away one piece from
35:33
another piece
35:34
the next option we’re going to go over
35:36
is weld this is how I would use the weld
35:39
button say I wanted to make a flower
35:42
border I’m going to grab this piece
35:44
right here I’m going to duplicate it
35:47
twice and I’m going to space these out
35:54
like so and I’m going to select them all
35:59
and hit align align bottom okay so I
36:04
have them aligned I’m going to make sure
36:07
that they are touching a little bit
36:09
overlapping each other okay so once we
36:14
have all of those selected we’re going
36:18
to click weld and watch what happens you
36:21
see that these are all now one layer up
36:23
here in the layers panel and they are
36:25
connected so I just made a flower border
36:28
the other time that you use weld and I
36:32
get asked this a lot is if I have text
36:35
they change this to a easier text to
36:39
read just love the text feature if I
36:42
have text and I want to make it isolate
36:47
ungroup two letters and I want to make
36:51
this text all cut out as one piece and
36:55
again you could align this and use your
36:58
letter spacing I’m just trying to show
37:00
you this quickly select all and weld and
37:06
now we have one piece right here so
37:12
those are two common uses for weld is to
37:14
take two shapes and kind of melt them
37:17
together or to take text and make it cut
37:21
out as one piece so I’m going to delete
37:23
that the next button we’re going to
37:25
explore is attach this question comes up
37:27
a lot I have three lines of text here it
37:30
says I love my Cricut and you should too
37:32
let’s click make it and see what happens
37:36
you can see that design space is set
37:39
this up on the mat to cut out like this
37:41
and what it’s doing is cutting it out to
37:44
save the most amount of paper
37:46
so it doesn’t look the way I want it if
37:50
I want this to cut out exactly like I
37:53
have it all set up and all lined up I
37:55
would select all and click attach now
37:59
look what happens when I click make it
38:02
it’s going to cut it out exactly the way
38:05
I have it set up another way that you
38:08
use attach and probably more often would
38:10
use attach is okay let’s put a shape in
38:13
square all right I’m going to click on
38:16
this square I’m going to make it white
38:17
say I’m making a card all right and I’m
38:21
going to put text and I’m going to say
38:24
happy birthday and I want to put that
38:32
text on the card
38:36
so I’m resizing it this is just for
38:41
illustration so I wanted to say happy
38:43
birthday on a card if I were to click
38:47
make it right now there’s my card here’s
38:53
my happy birthday that’s not what I want
38:56
what I would need to do to get that to
38:59
print happy birthday on the card is
39:01
select both of the objects and I could
39:06
click attach now what that’s going to do
39:10
is cut the happy birthday out of the
39:12
card because I attach the happy birthday
39:16
which was a cut file to the card but I
39:19
can go over here and click on the happy
39:21
and I could change that to print and I’m
39:29
going to change my font to black okay
39:33
now when I click make it I have happy
39:37
birthday printed on the card
39:42
alright let’s undo that another way if
39:47
you want to print something you’re going
39:52
to select it and instead of attach and
39:56
then switching it to print we can click
39:59
flatten the only time you’re going to
40:01
use the flatten button is when you’re
40:03
changing something to a print then cut
40:05
image so if I just click flatten it just
40:09
did all those steps for me so if I hit
40:12
click make it it knows that’s a print
40:17
and cut image so flatten is only used
40:22
for print than cut images say I decided
40:26
I wanted that happy birthday bigger I
40:28
could click on flatten and then I am
40:31
able to manipulate that again so that is
40:37
the flatten button we have one more
40:40
button here in the layers menu I want to
40:44
go over with you and that’s called
40:46
contour so I’m going to grab this image
40:49
I’m going to ungroup it and I’m going to
40:53
take this middle of the flower and say I
40:55
didn’t want those circles to cut out I
40:58
would click contour and this gives me
41:03
all of the images that I can get rid of
41:10
so I could get rid of all of them which
41:14
means now there are no holes in that
41:18
image you see that click undo let’s
41:25
click it again click contour say I just
41:28
wanted to get rid of I just don’t want
41:30
quite so many holes I can do that and if
41:32
you watch right here as I’m clicking on
41:35
these it’s getting rid of them
41:42
if we click off of it see we removed
41:47
some of those cut lines so that’s what
41:50
contour does okay we have one more
41:59
button to discuss over here and that is
42:02
color sync right here what color sync
42:04
does is say I want to cut this part and
42:11
say I want to cut the pink and the blue
42:13
out of the same colored cardstock all I
42:16
have to do is right here
42:18
grab the flower and pull it down to the
42:20
pink layer or maybe I want to cut these
42:23
flowers in the red layer I can do that
42:25
it’s just an easy way to without
42:28
individually going in and changing each
42:30
layers color hope to see you in the next
42:33
videos don’t forget to check out the
42:34
cheat sheets I’ve got them linked below
42:36
and I’ll see you soon bye bye
42:46
you
